Symfonie Yarns Terra 4ply Yarn Review

Symfonie Yarns Terra 4ply Yarn Review

When KnitPro recently sent me their KnitPro Dreamz Special Interchangeable Needle Starter Set to review they also kindly offered to send me a skein of yarn from Symfonie Yarns. What self respecting knitter would turns down yarn?

Symfonie Yarns is a division of KnitPro producing a wide range of semi-solid and variegated hand dyed knitting yarn on four yarn lines. I can’t tell you how many hours I spent narrowing down my choice to one skein of Symfonie Terra in Dragon Vine.

One of the challenges in choosing is that the thumbnails on the yarn pages don’t entirely do justice to the colourways, particularly the variegated ones. I searched Ravelry and the websites of Symfonie Yarns vendors for pictures of finished items and different views of the skeins before making my selection.

The yarn did not disappoint, Terra is a lightweight sock yarn with 25% polyamide and 75% extrafine Merino wool but I didn’t want to hide it in a pair of shoes, this yarn was destined for a shawl I could show off.

As soon as I’d photographed and wound the skein I cast on. The yarn is soft and smooth and the colours vibrant, this was a joy to knit with.

Variegated yarns often look quite different knitted up than one imagined and detailed pattern stitches can be lost in the busyness of the colours so I sought out a pattern designed for such yarns. The pattern, A Boom With A View by Clare Crouch, is very clever, the stitch patterns bring some interest to the knitting and the overall effect of the variegated yarn.

Unlike when knitting some rich colours my fingers remained clean and when soaking the knitting beforeblocking the water remained clear.

I’m very happy with the resulting shawl, this yarn would also make lovely socks and be ideal for unique baby and child garments. I want to knit with all the other colourways in the range right now.

Symfonie Yarns Terra 4ply in Dragon Vine supplied by KnitPro, words, pictures and knitting all my own.
