On Tuesday I shared some thoughts on the new J’adore gift set from KnitPro: New KnitPro J’adore gift set for Mother’s Day. Since opening the box I’ve knitted exclusively with needles from the set producing a baby hat, arm warmers and a couple of leaves.
My regular needles are a set of 10+ year old Symfonie Interchangeables so I was interested to see what’s changed as well as reflect on why I still love these needles. Interchangeable needle sets give the knitter lots of options, they’re not just for knitting big garments in the round but also great for big flat items like blankets, smaller round items like hats, smaller circumference rounds items using magic loop and even for small flat objects like leaves. Interchangeable needle sets are efficient in that with six sets of needle tips and 3 lengths of cables (plus cable connectors) you can create 7 lengths of cable or park a project on a cable and use the tips for something else. Extending your options is also easy as the tips and cables are compatible with others in the KnitPro range.
What’s new? The needle tips are made in Blooming Lavender colour wood with the sizes printed on the wood part of the tips and laser printed onto the metal connector part in both millimetres and US size and are beautifully smooth. I didn’t give a second thought to them being square in shape, which is said to be ergonomic and kind to the hands, once I’d cast on. The memory free, coated stainless steel cables are also new. I’ve never had a problem with my older cables but I think I may be in love with these. Not once have I had to retighten them and I’ve knitted things I would usually choose double pointed needles for with ease. To begin with I consciously guided the stitches from cable onto the needle as the profile of the connection is slightly different on the new cables but this quickly became automatic.
The gift set includes:
6 sizes of Cubics interchangeable needle tips (lavender coloured wood in an ergonomic square shape) in sizes 4.0, 4.5, 5.0, 5.5, 6.0 and 8.0mm.
3 memory-free stainless-steel cables in 60, 80 and 100cm lengths
4 cable end caps, 2 cable keys and one set of cable connectors
20 heart shaped amour metal stitch markers
A plush velvet case
Projects pictured are:
