KnitPro Dreamz Special Interchangeable Needles Review

KnitPro Dreamz Special Interchangeable Needles Review

Like many knitters who’ve been knitting for a long while I have a comprehensive selection of knitting needles but until KnitPro kindly sent me their KnitPro Dreamz Special Interchangeable Needle Starter Set to review I didn’t have any short tipped circulars.

The KnitPro Dreamz Special Interchangeable Needle Starter Set from the KnitPro Dreamz Set range is more than just a beginner’s set with five sets of 4″ interchangeable needle tips in sizes ranging from 3mm to 5mm, a 40cm cable, a 50cm cable, four end caps and two keys for securing the cables to the tips, all contained in a handy zip up case.

The tips are made from warm birchwood with a smooth glossy finish. The tips are beautifully smooth, my stitches have glided along the tips and around the cables. Each size of tips comes in a different colour so it’s easy at a glance to know you’ve picked up a matching pair, a mistake I have occasionally made, and adds a fun touch. These shorter 4″ tips in combination with a short cable are primarily suited to knitting smaller circumference projects in the round such as hats, cowls and baby jumpers but work just as well for knitting flat items back and forth.

The set is contained in a purse style case with room for 5 pairs of tips and a separate compartment containing the cables, stoppers and keys. There is room to add your own extra essentials. I’d probably add some small scissors or a thread cutter and wool needle, miniature nail file and perhaps an extra longer cable.

The set is small enough to pop in your handbag or travel project bag yet comprehensive enough for all sorts of eventualities. The shorter length tips are good on the go as they take up a bit less space in my bag. The current knit has been on the bus, car, coach and train. Knitted outside the school gate, in a hospital waiting room and in a pub.

If you are comfortable working with the shorter tips they can be far more versatile than standard ones, intended for making small circumferences in circular knitting they can still be used for longer circumferences and knitting flat. You can also add to the set and mix and match with other KnitPro products, add more or longer cables, bigger or smaller tips or even tips from other ranges such as the novas or mindful collection. Regular length needle tips are also available in the KnitPro Dreamz range.

In short, I love this little set, the tips are slick, the cable joins smooth and the case is perfect for popping in my bag for knitting on the go. I find my desire to use these needles more influencing my next project choices.
