Sequin decorated trees

Sequin decorated trees

My youngest and I have been making decorations as gifts for the preschool teachers. I knitted the trees and she’s picked out the sequins and threaded them onto the blunt needle for me to sew on.

The trees are very simple:

Using double knit yarn and 3.25mm needles.
Cast on 3 stitches,

  1. Knit 1 row (3 stitches),
  2. Knit 1, increase in next stitch (I knit front & back), knit 1 (4 stitches),
  3. Knit 1 row,
  4. Knit 1, increase in next stitch, knit 2 (5 stitches),
  5. All odd rows knit,
  6. On even rows increase one in the centre stitch or stitch before if it’s even. Continue until 20 stitches, knit one more row then bind off.

We used a sparkly embroidery thread and sequins from our extensive craft selection to decorate both sides the same. We didn’t worry about the thread showing as it looks a little like bunting as we worked from the star at the top to the baubles at the bottom with one piece of thread.
